I ran CoPilot on my Dell 610 and yes it was for my Private Pilot use. It took the abuse of the plane and then when I would travel for my work on the ground. I once had it on a Toshiba and it just would not transfer from tower to tower smoothly, so I went to the Dell. I did not have the touch screen at that time, but do now and love it although in the sun I can't see as well. Nature of the beast. Do get a 15" or above for the touch screen and 1000 mb and 2000 mhz with 40G. XP is fine, professional as is 2000 still. You don't have to buy new. EBay is just fine if you read the standards and the feedback on the companies. Visit a best buy and listen to the sales pitch, write it all down then go in and purchase your own. Just don't forget to keep the laptop in your truck stationary as you will cause dead time to the software and longevity of that is the killer of it's value and it's will to work properly causing you to upgrade and re-install often. Try CSR Technologies on EBay.
